fire sprinkler lawSan Francisco, CA -- A series of fatal fires in San Francisco has forced government officials to take a closer look at finding ways to install fire sprinkler systems in older buildings without significant disruption.

Both property owners and city officials acknowledge both the need and the difficulty involved in installing fire sprinklers in older buildings. But, what side will win?

In 2015 alone, 6 fires in San Francisco have already killed four people.  Last year, a 5-alarm fire destroyed a store in a busy and crowded shopping district.

Supervisor Jane Kim's district covers a neighborhood where a blaze took place.  She is helping to push along the mandate of fire sprinklers.  "The data show that sprinklers absolutely save lives," said Kim.
