Early Sunday morning a fire in an apartment kitchen was extinguished with fire sprinklers before firefighters arrived.
When crews arrived, they found an activated fire sprinkler and an extinguished fire. Crews needed to remove smoke and water damage from four apartments.
No injuries were reported and the American Red Cross is assisting the families that were temporarily displaced from the water and smoke damage.
The Johnson City Fire Department says that this fire is an example of how important it is to have working smoke detectors and fire sprinklers in the home.
