El Paso, TX -- A mother and her two daughters died in an apartment fire yesterday morning when a skillet was left on a stove.

The fire victims are Magaly Mendoza, 32; Andrea Garcia, 11; and Paulina Ortega, 4.  Andrea was a sixth grader at Armendariz Middle School.  They released a statement after hearing of the loss.

"The students, faculty, and staff at Armendariz Middle School are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Andrea Garcia.  Andrea was a part of our Armendariz family and losing a member of our family is tough.  We will work to make sure our students and teachers - as well as Andrea's family - get the support they need to cope with this tragedy.  We ask the community to keep Andrea and Armendariz Middle School in their thoughts as we mourn this loss," said Armendariz Middle School Principal, Lorenzo Munoz.

Also in the apartment were Perla Mendoza, 22, who carried out her infant daughter and Lizette Gomez, 33.  They were able to escape through the front door.  When firefighters arrived at 4:30am, Mendoza handed them her baby and said their were three more people inside.  They found the three victims one by one.

The victims were transported to a local hospital in critical condition, but all three died.
