4-Alarm Fire Burns Through Commercial, Residential Building | F.E. Moran Fire Protection

Bayonne, NJ -- A four alarm fire tore through a mixed-use residential and commercial building in New Jersey.

The fire broke out at 4:40pm and spread to two other buildings.  The fire ignited on a bitterly cold night, making efforts difficult.  It took several hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control.  Twelve apartments, a restaurant, and a clock store were damaged.  Twenty people were displaced.

"I smelled something burning in my living room, looked out [and] saw the fire and that was it," said James Herer, a displaced resident.

Bayonne Fire Department Chief Greg Rogers said, "Conditions here are cold, it's really freezing, it's slippery, there's ice everywhere, a lot of guys were going down."
