Workers Walk off Job Site, Construction Site Death | F.E. Moran Fire Protection

Construction workers at the Adelaide Hospital walked off site Monday, in memory of construction worker Stephen 'Steve' Wyatt, following his workplace death.

The father of two, Stephen Wyatt, 63, died after being crushed between a scissor lift and a doorway.  He was supervising a fitout at the hospital construction site on Saturday when the event occurred.  This is the second death at the site.

Workers attended a mass meeting today to discuss safety concerns and time pressures over the project plagued by delays.  In the meeting, workers voted to walk off site and return Tuesday, in memory of Wyatt.

The first death at the site was Jorge Castillo-Riffo, 54.  He was also using a scissor lift, when he was crushed against concrete.  Following his death, the site mandated that two people use the lifts to avoid future fatalities.
