Sprinkler Douses Fire in NC High-rise

Durham, NC -- The JFK Towers experienced a fire on Sunday night.  Luckily, an automatic alarm sounded and fire sprinklers activated, saving the building.

When firefighters arrived, they didn't see any smoke or fire.  However, residents were standing outside the building and pointed firefighters in the area of the fire.  The fire was blowing out of a window on the fifth floor.

The sprinkler contained the fire, giving firefighters the chance to arrive at the fire and extinguish it within 18 minutes.

The fire started from improperly disposed of smoking materials.  Four residents were injured.  One resident was displaced.
