Buffalo Grove, IL -- Buffalo Grove is considering updating its building code to meet the current International Code Council guidelines.
The village is currently using code from 2006. Building Commissioner Brian Sheehan is saying that updating to the 2015 code would allow the village to keep up with current technology and building construction methods. One of those updates would be fire sprinklers for single family homes. Currently, fire sprinklers are only required for multi-family dwellings.
One village trustee is fighting against it. Jeffrey Berman believes that it would be too costly. He agrees with the requirement for multi-family buildings because you cannot control your neighbors. However, he thinks it will deter new residents from moving into the community.
