Rochester, NH -- A six-alarm fire sent 100 firefighters to a fire in the Gonic neighborhood's downtown.
The fire burned down three Main Street buildings in Gonic. The fire originated at Phagins Bar and Grill at 1:30pm on Sunday. Soon upon arriving, firefighters called six-alarms and 100 firefighters from 20 departments battled the flames. The heat was intense and firefighters took breaks periodically.
"We had excellent resources set up for rehab, food, drink, and cooling stations," said Rochester Fire Deputy Chief Tim Wilder.
Neighbors said that the buildings that burned in the fire, which included an apartment building, Phagins Bar & Grill, and Renaissance Firearms, have been a staple in the community for a long time.
Witness, Sharman Lyons said, "I nearly cried. I was very sad. It breaks my heart. Growing up here, I walked to the Gonic School for years. It's heartbreaking. And these two thriving businesses. And I hope they can overcome and come back."
