man evacuates home before firefighters arrive

Everett, MA -- A man passing by a burning building sprung to action, saving the residents.

Anthony Collings was on his way home when he saw flames and smoke coming from a three flat.  When he noticed that no one was coming or going from the property, he decided to take action.

Collings rang all of the doorbells, but no one came out of the burning building, so he kicked in the door.  First he "banged on the first floor door then they came out," said Collings.  The first floor residents escaped successfully, so Collings moved to the second and third floors.  The residents didn't speak English and couldn't understand what was going on.  Collings said, "The second and third floor didn't speak English and were refusing to come out.  I pulled them by the arm and got them out."

By the time Collings evacuated all residents, firefighters arrived.  They began working to extinguish the fire that was at the back of the building.
