YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) - A person has died following a construction accident Friday in York County.

According to Captain Paul Long with the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety, the accident was reported around 10:40 a.m. at a construction site located in the 700 block of Bypass Road.

Lt. Dennis Ivey with the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office said the victim died after being taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, as well as by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Long said.

He did not know what type of work was being done at the site.

A WAVY News photographer on the scene reported the accident appeared to have happened on private property.

This is the second deadly construction accident this week. A Chesapeake man was killed Wednesday in an accident at a Virginia Beach work site. The incident remains under investigation.
