New York, NY -- A worker at a NY construction site was killed when he fell hundreds of feet down an elevator shaft.
Christian Gisci, 25, was working at the Riu Plaza Times Square yesterday when he fell down the shaft at 12:30pm. His body was found in the cellar.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the construction site has been plagued by safety issues since the beginning. In July 2013, work on the building was halted due to the unsafe working environment. An investigation revealed a number of safety issues, including floor openings without proper rails.
RIU Hotel and Resorts released a statement through a lawyer that they were " incredibly saddened by this horrible accident, and our prayers are with the family."
