Chicago Blackhawks Kick Start Training Center Construction

Chicago, IL -- The Chicago Blackhawks ice hockey team will be getting a new Community Training Center.  It will be two blocks from their United Center facility.

Mayor Emanuel and Blackhawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz broke ground on the facility this week.  It is on the former land of the Malcolm X College.

The facility will cost $55 million and will have year round youth hockey development programs, recreational leagues, and events.  It will also be the practice facility for the Chicago Blackhawks and visiting teams.

"This new facility is a win for the Chicago Blackhawks and win for Chicago's youth.  This training center will be a community hub, providing programs for young people and opportunities for the neighborhood," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Blackhawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz said, "This facility will serve as the new epicenter for hockey development in Chicago.  While benefiting the Chicago Blackhawks, the vast majority of time the ice will be used by adult, youth and recreational leagues, and programs that support hockey development for underprivileged youth throughout the city."
