Experts Reveal Age of Bones Found at Construction Site
United Kingdom -- On September 13, construction workers made a grim discovery - bones that were determined to be human. If experts found that the bones were 50 years old or younger, a murder investigation would launch. How old were they?
The construction workers found a skull in a storm drain while carrying out a flood alleviation project. Detective Inspector Helen Ellis reported that the skull was in fact human and forensic experts would determine the age.
The remains were sent to the University of Dundee. Tests were conducted to find the age of the bone and when the person died. If the test revealed the person died post-1955, a murder investigation would launch. Detective Ellis said, "If it's 200 or 300 years old then we won't investigate further, but obviously, if it's more recent than that then we have a crime scene on our hands."
The forensic research was recently completed and it was determined that the bones did not belong to anyone who died post-1955. It is believed that the bones are from pre-1805. The county archaeologist is investigating further.
