The 8 Habits of Highly Productive People
Personal Excellence published a great post on the 8 habits of highly productive people. For the love of science, I tested these 8 habits. See what my results were.
We have all heard of the 8 Habits series. While reading Personal Excellence, I saw an infographic on the 8 Habits of Highly Productive People. Well, I had to test these habits out to see if they actually work. Let's see.
Habit 1: Ruthlessly Cut Away the Unimportant
The Take Away: Focus only on the important things, and forget about the extras.
Results: In my pursuit of a simple life, I began doing this already. I changed my routines. For example, instead of looking at my analytics for my company website everyday, I analyzed it once a week, with a more in depth look once a month. By doing this, I was able to focus on my to-do list items that had an impact now, rather than later. It has helped me get more done in a shorter amount of time. It's a win!
Habit 2: Allocate Breaks Strategically
The Take Away: Only take breaks when I need to rather than when I want to.
Results: This is harder to do than you would think. Most days, I was able to do this without a problem, but there were definitely days where I got distracted. With some practice, this will help me be more productive.
Habit 3: Remove Productivity Stoppers
The Take Away: If there's something that cuts into your productivity, take it away while you're working.
Results: It works! I close down my email and mute my calls while I'm working on a task that needs to get done, and I finish so much faster. No more distractions.
Habit 4: Tap into Your Inspiration
The Take Away: Keep what motivates you at the front of your mind. Do you want to provide for your family? Do you want to move up the ladder? Do you want to write a book? Do you want to be the foremost expert in your field? Keep your motivation in front of you. If you're feeling less than motivated, remind yourself why you're doing what you do.
Results: This habit is probably the most important one. Sometimes I feel very overwhelmed with everything on my plate, but I keep my goals in the front of my mind at all times and it drives me forward. This habit is a big win.
